Tokyo Mission Evacuated - 42 New Missionaries Arrive in Kobe from Tokyo Mission

This afternoon, March 17th, 42 wonderful missionaries arrived by chartered bus at the Kobe Mission Home after a 7 hour bus ride from the Tokyo Mission. They have all been reassigned to Kobe for an undetermined period of time.
Most only had a few hours to pack before making their way to catch the bus. Nevertheless, they were happy, excited and full of energy as we greeted them and welcomed them to the Kobe Mission.
The Kobe office staff, assistants and the 12 returning missionaries joined us in hugging and shaking hands with our new missionaries.
Many of them were together in the MTC or knew each other prior to their missions.
Sisters all got hugs from Sister McIntyre. We have 8 new sisters and 34 elders.
Except for most of their bikes, they brought all their bags and belongings.
Bags were all stored in the church and the missionaries gathered in the chapel of the Kobe Stake Center for some orientation.
All new missionaries received a Kobe Mission Binder with important information about the mission. After some introductions and orientation, we had Q & A time and then ate dinner.
Currey rice, salad and cookies were prepared by Sister McIntyre and Sister Ise. We fed a small army of about 65 missionaries total.

4 new sisters stayed at the Kobe sister's apartment and 4 in the mission home. All the elders slept on futons in the church. We had 45 elders in the church and 16 in the apartment. The biggest challenge, showering in the morning!

The night before, having just gotten the final information about the incoming Tokyo missionaries that afternoon, we were working on the transfer board until about 2am to figure out how to accommodate 42 additional missionaries. In the end, it worked out beautifully.
In the morning each reassigned missionary will get their companion and area assignments and transfer to their new area. We are so excited to work with these great missionaries. We could feel such a powerful spirit from them.

Thank you so much for posting this. One of those Tokyo missionaries, Elder Guy, is a very close family friend. It was great to see the photos of him being welcomed by your missionaries. God Bless all of you and the people of Japan.

Thanks for welcoming our missionaries!!! We are filled with gratitude for your help and spirit as they come to serve with your great mission. I was so thankful for pictures posted to. I could see my son, who I haven't been able to have contact with since his quick phone email just after the quake. We are praying for all of you and all of Japan.

My brother, Elder MacCabe, has been transferred to Kobe. I didn't specifically see him in the pictures, but I bet he's there now. Thanks for taking good care of him and all the other missionaries!

Thank you so much for providing this blogsite and current information on the incoming Tokyo Missionaries. As a mom of one of those missionaries, it is the first time I have felt real peace and assurance in the past few days.
Please thank whoever prepared the food for all of those missionaries. I am sure to them it seemed like a feast, coming from the bare shelves of Tokyo.
Also thank whoever helped provide all the bedding and whoever arranged it so nicely, so that all the missionaries had to do was say their prayers and go to sleep. I imagine they must be so weary, but I'm sure they have plenty to thank their Heavenly Father for tonight. I know I do.
Thank you for your positive approach and assuring us everything worked out beautifully in adopting so many new many missionaries all at once.
I hope you can appreciate that I will truly sleep soundly for the first time in days because of the things i have learned on this blogsite.
Thank you Pres. and Sis. Mcintyre and Kobe missionaries for making this a happy transition.

What a small world! My brother (Elder Young) was one of the 42 that were relocated. I am beyond thrilled that he will be able to serve the people in Kobe mission.

When I found out I was so excited that I told Erika right away. :)

When I heard the news of the earthquake/tsunami, after a momentary shock, the next thing was to plead with Heavenly Father for the safety of our missionaries. I am so grateful to know they are well.

While I do not have a missionary grandson in Japan, our family's prayers have been for the country and for all our missionaries serving there. Our prayers are with all those affected by this terrible event.

My name is Colton Burner, I'm called to serve in the Japan Kobe mission. I go to the MTC on April 20th, and I'm just wondering if the mission is still going to be open or not. Any information you can give me will be appreciated.

Served in the Kobe mission many years ago and LOVE this blog. I love that all the missionaries are safe and I love and pray for the people in Japan. I feel so blessed to have served there and it hurts my heart to know there are people suffering because of this disaster. May their hearts be turned towards our Savior - hopefully many good things will come out of this horrible thing
